The Great Melee Update
With all our recent focus on new, fun magics, our down-to-earth melee fighters may have felt more than a little neglected. Feel neglected no longer!
This update completely overhauls melee weaponry, and adds a new subclass and new skills to make improved use of them. You may have seen hints and teasers, including the weapons sold in Ivis. Soon, player Blacksmiths will be able to craft all of the new weapons in a variety of new material classes. Hostile mobs will also soon be updated to drop from these new weapons. Additionally, for a limited time, certain staff members will be able to convert your beloved weapons to the new system so that they are both rebalanced and function with the new skills.
A Brief Overview
Four New Weapon Types
- Medium Swords
- Heavy Swords
- Light Axes
- Heavy Axes
- Spears, etc
Eight Material Classes
- Crucible Steel
Four Paths, corresponding to the four weapons types, each with at least 2 skills within. An Armsman can either choose to dabble in each path, or to master one. From Kiithnaras, who assisted in development for Armsman and the other new skills:
"This specialist class is for all of you non-magic types out there that specialize in applying sharp/heavy items to the faces of others. There are a good number of skills contained within that focus on specific types of weapons and allow various status effects or bonuses to occur either on a chance basis or a per-consecutive-hit basis when using those specific types of weapons."
New Player Skills
Rogue Archetype, Melee AOE
"Using a dagger...or two...you are able slice repeatedly at up to three enemies repeatedly in front of you! Damage increases slightly with rank, but the number of slices can go up to four per cast. Having two daggers will make this skill do a bit extra damage per cast, also. If you're particularly well-prepared, then your targets may experience a sudden and violent case of poison as well!"
Fighter Archetype, Defensive Guard
"With a bit of clever anticipation, you merely can handily and harmless deflect the next physical attack in the next few moments. This will take a little bit of skill to pull off, though, and you'll need a few moments afterward to be able to anticipate the next strike. Cooldown decreases with skill rank."
(Moving to Aquamancer: Aqua Aegis)
New Shops and Foundries
There will be a variety of locations where players can either craft the new raw materials, or purchase them. Currently implemented:
- Steel Merchant in Oasis Market
- Steel Shops in Ironwood
- Foundry: Verdisio
- Foundry: Rimefjell
Starting this weekend, this update will roll into Beta.
The new blacksmith skills will operate as a semi-open beta. For the duration of the beta, the skills will be available only for blacksmiths who have reached the old level cap of level 30 - which has now been increased to 40. After the beta is over, the level requirement for each skill will be reduced significantly.
The Armsman class will operate as a closed beta. Certain individuals will be invited to profess as the Armsman class to test some of the skills. Following the conclusion of the beta, the Armsman class will be available upon request.
