*A beautiful book lays on the floor of the cave, half covered in dirt. You pick it up carefully and blow off the cover, opening the dried out pages. Is that mud or blood smeared across the pages? You can make out the writings, and, for some reason, you open to the last page and start to read.*
"Hello, and greetings! I am so happy you've found my book! There is much knowledge I wish to impart, yet time is precious.
My name is Artemis Travera. Explorer, historian, scholar and archaeologist.
And I am dying.
But do not grieve for me, for I go now to become the past which I so adored. And you, dear reader, are the future. Please, I beg you to read this, my last missive. It is all I have left.
This land...Myraeon. Rarely before have I ever encountered such...wild and untouched land. True, there are settlers, and civilizations which have spanned centuries...but even they have left pockets of the most rich land and unencountered lore! From isolated groves to untraversed mountains, from feral jungles to wind-swept deserts, there is such beauty in this land! One could so easily make their home here...perhaps even found their own settlements, as some did long ago.
And beneath it all, the ruins of an ancient civilization, so unstudied! They, like the land, are called Myraeon. It is with great shame that I must admit these Myraeon remain an enigma, even to me...but evidence of the once-great culture that spanned this continent is scattered high and low. Perhaps...you will uncover their secrets?
But, if history or archaeology arouse no excitement in you, you will surely find a good life here. Whether you prefer to live in a city or live alone, there are acres of land out there just waiting for you to make your own. Oh, what stories you will make! You could grow a farm...make an inn! Make roads, and put a tavern on it...ah, but my old imagination isn't what it used to be. What would you make, I wonder?
Ahh, but why settle? There is so much to see, so much to explore! Even I have not seen all there is to see...I wish I could see what you will encounter in your travels. The people, the ancient cities, the natural wonders! It is all yours.
And as with all things beautiful, there is great danger. I leave you with a warning...this land is not without its perils. Simple undead will not be your only worries...there are fierce monsters, greater than anything you may have face before. Of course, monsters aren't your only worries...for it is the nature of sentient beings to war with each other.
Oh, dear reader, I wish you luck in your adventure! Great wonder, great danger, and so much more wait for you ahead...and it will all be what you make of it. What will you be...? Who are you? I wish I could know...but sadly, I cannot.
Before I expire, a final warning. With my dying breath...I write of those that hunt our company. You must go forth with prudence, for there are...
